OBITUARY.
MB E. C. CHEGWIN. Mr E. C. Chegwin, a retired builder and a well-known bowler, who resided at Sydenham, died yesterday morning. Mr Chegwin erected many buildings in and around Christchurch, among them being the Prince of Wales, the Crown, and Tattersall's Hotels, the Leeston Roman Catholic Church, the old Syd ham Council Chambers, and other buildings. He was known in bowling circles from one end of the Dominion to the other, having played in most of the New Zealand tournaments within the past 15 years. Some years ago he represented the Dominion in a match at Sydney against Australia, and played the shot which was tho means of giving New Zealand the victory. A past president of the Sydenham Bowling Club, Mr Chegwin was » foundation member of the Beckenham Bowling Club, and was its first president. He was also an ex-president of the Canterbury Bowling Centre, and was the originator of the Christchurch Indoor Bowling Club. Mr Chegwin, who was in his 69th year, is survived by a widow, one son, Mr F. C. Chegwin, of Wellington, and three daughters, Mrs G. T. Bailev (Svdnev), Mrs S. Wellsford, and Mrs W. Joll (Christchurch).
