THE WAIMAKARIRI.
TO THE EDITOtt OF "THE PRSSS." Sir,—ln an attack on your editorial on the Waimakariri River Trust scheme your correspondent, C. It. Russell; states: "It would bo interesting to know just who these experts are, who compare, in qualifications, and experience, with Messrs Hay, Wood, Galbraith, and Uobson." Might 1 just add that it would be equally interesting if Mr O. R. Russell would kindly inform us what "experience" the abovementioned "experts" have had in diverting rivers as large, and treacherous, as the Waimakariri. Also, have the diversions been a thorough success, or are their beds gradually shoaling up to their original condition? I do not think tho "experts" would have any objection to the information beinp published, for it might help to restore confidence in the River Trust scheme.—Yours, etc.. J. SMALLEY. Kaiapoi, May Ist, 1026.
