LAKE COLERIDGE.
EXTENSION OF POWER STATION. WOBK BEARING AN BHD. Regarding the completion of **»» work at the new intake in oonnexioa with the extension of the power station at Lake Coleridge, Mr F, Langbien, Resident Engineer, Public Works Department, told a reporter yesterday that it was anticipated that everything would bo ready on the 22nd inst. to permit the breaking through of the concrete wall of the No. 1 surge chamber, thus completing the connexion between the two surge chambers. Detailing the work still to be done, Mr Langbien said that a certain amount of material had to be excavated around the top of the intake shaft, and this work should bo done in a week. The headstocks, for operating the intake gates, then would be erected, and the gates would be tested by letting water into the subaqueous tunnel. If the test proves satisfactory, the top of the intake cylinder will be removed. Before the two surge chambers can be connected up certain adjustments require to be made to one of the No. 2 tunnel gates; these should be effected by the 22nd. The work of connecting the two surge chambers, which involves a complete shut down of' the power station, and the .onsequent cutting off of all power supply, will be done that week-end, and is expected to be done during the hours of daylight Some cleaning up work remains to be done in the No. 2 —the new—tunnel; this consists of sweeping out the tunnel and thoroughly cleaning it, and the stoppage of a few leak's. This work should be completed within a fortnight.
