SPOIL DUMP.

A PROMISING INVESTMENT. . According to the report of the Works and Traffic Committee, presented at yesterday's meeting of the Tramway Board, a promising investment has been made by tho purchase of an area for use as a spoil dump. The report stated: — Some tiuiQ ago the Board purchased a section of about 5 J acres, having a frontage of 16J chains to Page's road tramline. The price paid for the whole block was only £4OO. It was land from which clay had been taken in the early days for New Brighton road formation, and it had become a water-logged, mos-quito-breeding, unsightly hole. It is used as a dump for material removed when track renewal -work is done, and which cannot be disposed of elsewhere. In the course of time about twenty good building sections will be available, and as the. original cost of the whole block was only £4OO, the ratepayers will gain considerably when the old pit is filled. Other local bodies are supplied with second-hand track material at a low cost when it is suitable for road purposes and already a considerable quantity has been token by the New Brighton Council. They have been offered a further supply at 5s 6d per yard, delivered on a tramway siding.
