■ ♦ Tho Council of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals met last evening, when there were present: Mr. A. W. MacOillivra.v, ilesdames F. E. Biltcliff, E. Cross, Messrs J. 0. Jameson, Geo. Biltcliff, and R. Wilson. A letter was received from tho Wellington Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals protesting against the proposal of the North Canterbury and Otago Acclimatisation Societies to import chikor or chunkor for tho purposes of sport, and requesting support. The Council decided to take no action in the matter. A letter was received from Mr J. A. Forbes, hon. organiser of Animal Welfare Week, which is to bo held in July, 25th to yist. The writer detailed some of the plans for the week, and the Council resolved to give all possible assistance to the cause. Accounts amounting to £75 ITs Sd were passed for payment. The inspector (Mr D. J. White) reported that he had inspected horse and poultry saleyards in the City and at Rangiora; stock sales at Addington, Rangiora, and Leeston; owe fairs at Hawarden, Culverden, Little River, and East Oxford; the ram fair at Addington; and race meetings at Addington and Riccarton. The following districts were visited: Ellesmere, Springston, Doyleston, Irwell, Southbridgo, Lincoln, Lndbrooks, Prebbleton, Hornby, Templeton, Burnham, Weedons, Marshlands, Sockburn, . Annat, Southbrook, Kaiapoi, Stys, Chaneys, Woodend, Waiau, Belfast, Islington, Ohoka, and Cust, Cattle, sheep, and pigs were inspected at the City abattoirs, and the inspector found everything fairly satisfactory. The freezing works at Kaiapoi, Belfast, and Islington were inspected. Several cautions had.been issued. The report was adopted.
