A WASH-OUT.
y WAfftARAPA LINE. (snaux. so "m fuss.") WELLINGTON, May 1. A wash-out on the Wairarapa line, to the north of the Summit, has blocked all through trains until Monday. Trains will in the meantime run only to Cross Greek, from the Wairarapa, and a full service will be, maintained to Upper Hutt, but no trains will go further than that from the Wellington sido. Heavy rains last night, somewhat in the nature of a cloudburst, blocked two culverts on tho north (Wairarapa) side of the tunnel, with debris, with tho result that they were carried away. The first wash-out is about half a mile from the tunnel. The track, apart from this, appears to be undamaged, but it is estimated that there are about 1000 tong of mud and debris to be cleared, after the culverts are repaired, before traffic can be resumed' A special work train, with a gang of men, left Wellington at 7.45 a.m. today to clear and repair the track. At 10.30 a.m. to-day the sun was shining again, so that the work can proceed in favourable circumstances, and it is anticipated that full traffic will be re-in-stated by Monday.
