MOTORISTS.

TO THE EDITOB Of "THI PZKSS." ® ir > After having read numerous complaints and suggestions regarding that section of the community known as motorists, which have from time to time appeared in print, I have come to the conclusion that these people are evidently some new kind of criminal, of viciouS and lasv-breaking intent. They apparently leave their cars auywhere for pedestrians to stumble o\er. They make fearful aud uucouth noises late at night, aud occasionally go so far as to bump unoffending citizens back on to the safety zone ill the Square, besides being the direct cause of a forest of unsightly bowsers, which have lately sprouted in our fair City. Xow this can't go on. if we are to enjoy the same peaceful lives wu did in I would suggest to overcome the j parking nuisance, that all motorists be made to fold up their niachiues, and stand them on end in Hagley park, aud [ no driving be allowed in the City, except by special permit from our" High Commissioner in London. This would allow a fairer chance of taking the numbers of any offending cyclist who persists in bell-ringing at crossings. It would also help to make it less dangerous for the perambulators on the footpaths on Friday nights. A car ownor should also be compelled to hang on his car, in addition to his registered number, large framed copies of his address, his driving license, his birth certificate and his last year's income tax assessment,' with pencil attached, for possible endorsement. And as for the bowsers, how much nicer it would bo to have a central filliug station at, say Burnham or Rolleston, where they could be erected at seven huudred to the acre, and be a thing of. beauty, and a joy forever. I am sure your readers will agree with me, that something really must be done to overcome this growing menace in our midst.—Yours, etc., "SAFETY FIRST."
