A Milan telegram says that it was an historic occasion at La Bcala Opera House when Puccini's unfinished opera, "Turandot," was first presented. The opera was conducted by Toscanini. The crowded audience included the elite of Italian society. The production was most* impressive. "Turandot" proved an astonishing spectacle. It was a feast of colour with a brilliant cast, but the music only was important an characteristic. In the third act, when the action ceases the fantastic, becomes intensely human. The character of the beautiful, but cruel Princess Turandot did not appoal to Puccini's genius like the slave girl, Liu which creation resembles "Mimi." The opera was successfully completed by Alfano, but the conclusion was not played on the opening night.
