ARMAGH STREET SURFACE.

COUNCIL APPROVES NEW WORK. "Armagh street, between Fitzgerald avenue and Stanmorc road, which is a macadam road, and carries a great deal of motor-bus traffic, is in a. very bad state," stated the report of the Works and Sanitary Committee presented to last night's meeting of the City Council. "Patching with dry metal is practically useless. The road requiros scarifying and remetalling, at an estimated cost of £492, and the committee considers that this is the only procedure that will ensure the surface of the road being in good condition. The committee therefore recommends that the necessary sum bo placed on the estimates, and. that the work be proceeded with at once." Cr. A. W. Heaven asked -whether the Highways Board would not assist with the work. Cr. E. H. Andrews said they would be laughed at if they made such an application. The committee's recommendation was adopted.
