NEW CANADIAN TARIFF. GRAVEST CONCERN. (BT CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPXBIQHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) OTTAWA, April 28. A deputation comprising over 3000 peoplo poured into the city to-day, tho object being to urge upon the Government that the Customs tariff on automobiles should not be reduced as proposed in the Budget brought down last week. They came from Oshawa and other Ontario cities by special trains. At a meeting held in the largest theatre in Ottawa to organise a march to Parliament Hill, a memorial was adopted for presentation to the Premier, Mr Mackenzie King, stating that the "sudden, drastic, and unexpected proposal'' to reduce the duty 'on automobiles "causes feelings of tho gravest concern." A hush occurred when, while details of the parade were being outlined, the Premier and Mr Robb, the Minister for Finance, unexpectedly walked on to the stage. The applause which greeted Mr Mackenzie King's appearance and a short speech was turned to demonstrations of disapproval when Mr Robb; 1 after, explaining that the Government would be glad to consider th e arguments to be presented, issued a warning that "we intend to stand by our guns and leave it as it is now, so far as I am concerned."
