Miss Xorah Barrett, who has relinquished her duties at the railway bookstall, was met yesterday by a large number of members of the railway service and presented with a silver jewelcase. Mr J. Shields, coaching foreman, in making the presentation, paid a high tribute to }fiss Barrett's personal qualities, and extended the best wishes of the staff to her in her future career. Mrs K. Y. Simpson, of Hohonui, left yesterday ,on a visit to her sister, Mrs Bristcd, of Christchurch. Mr W. J. Mcllrov returned to Christchurch yesterday. Mr P. N. Kingswell arrived yesterday from Auckland. Mr IJ. Keown, of Barrytown, left yesterday for Christchurch and Wellington. Messrs A. Mcßrido and F. Butler, of Waturoa; left yesterday for Dunedin. Yesterday Mrs A. V. Oliver left for Christchurch and Dunedin on a fortnight's holiday. Miss Buckley, Assistant-Inspector of Hospitals, who has been visiting the West Coast institutions, left yesterday for Christchurch. Mr J. Guider, railway wharf foreman, and Mrs Guider left jesterday on a holiday visit to Christchurch and Dunedi'i. Misses E. and L. Knight (Hokitika) left yesterday for Christchurch and Dunedin. Miss Ivy Orange, who has been visiting Miss K. Badger, returned to Christchurch yesterday. Mr and Mrs W. McKay, who have been visiting Nelson and the West Coast, returned to Christchurch yesterday. Mr Maurice Davis, of Kilmarnock, Scotland, who has been spending about two years on a sketching tour through New Zealand, arrived on a visit to Greymouth from Nelson on Friday. He intends visiting Lake Kanieri and the Franz .Tosef Glacier in quest of suitable subjects for painting. Constable John Kennedy, of Ross, who has resigned from the Police Force, was met by the staff of Hokitika substation on Friday evening aud presented with a valuable umbrella. Sergeant King made the presentation. Constable Kennedy, Mrs Kennedy, and family left yesterday for Christchurch. Mr and Mrs W. Samuels have returned to Westport from a holiday visit to the North Island. Mrs D. Darach has returned to Westport from an extended visit to New Plymouth. Mrs J, M. Sunley, of Westport, accompanied by her daughter, Miss Fanny Sunley, of Wellington, is visiting Professor and Mrs Cumming, of Dunedin. Mr A. A. Wilson has returned to Westport from a business visit to Wellington. Car Stuck in Creek. Mr J. Nohra, draper, of Reefton, was crossing Moonlight Creek on Friday in a ear laden with drapery and goods when the tyre punctured, and the engine was unable to force the car through. During the time that had elapsed before sufficient horses were procured to extricate the car, tho rapidly-rising creek submerged everything but tho hood, and when the vehicle was eventually landed the drapery and goods wero completely saturated, resulting in a heavy loss tft the owner. Fatal Sawmill Accident. Arthur Finch, who met'with a serious accident at Malfroy's Mill, Three Mile, near Hokitika, on Friday morning, succumbed to his injuries this morning at the Westland Hospital. Man Missing. Mr Samuel Stewart, a well-known resident of Goldsborough, has been missing from his home sinco Friday morning, under peculiar circumstances. It appears that Mr Stewart drovo his spring cart to Kumara on liisusual business run. He took some orders on the way, and was last seen near Callaghan's. , Several hours lator, about 4.30 p.m., the horse and cart were found tied up near the little dam at Waimea. Search parties were organised by Constable L. Fox, of Kumara, and the big dam was run out. A vigorons search has since been carried out, but up till this evening there was no news of the missing man.
