FIRE BRIGADES.
MEETING OF ASSOCIATION, The annual meeting of the Canterbury Fire Brigades' Association was held last evening. Secretary W. R. Stephens (Christchurch Railway Brigade) presided, and others present were: Superintendent R. A. Stokes (New Brighton), Engineer H. Hessey (Christchurch Railway), Secretary R. B. Hean (Addiogton Railway), Superintendent A. Baintey, Captain C. W. Boyd (Addington Railway), Superintendent Tyler (Rangiora), J. Q. Hines (Sumner), and Engineer E. Cummings (Addington Railway). Brigades represented were:—Christchurch Railway, Christchurch City, Addington Railway, Akaroa, Ashburton, Sumner, New Brighton, and Rangiora. The chairman, in » short address, stated that on behalf of the Association he extended a welcome to those delegates present. The work of the previous year had not been strenuous. Unfortunately, the last meeting had had to be postponed, and, owing to a mistake, some of the brigades had not been represented when the meeting wag held. He wished the secretary, Mr R. B. Hean, every success on his retirement from his brigade. Mr J. Gamble, Mayor of New Brighton, stated that it gave him much pleasure that (ho meeting was held in his borough. He hoped that the meeting would be both profitable and pleasant. The remit of tho Sumner Fire Brigade was "That a motor event, the same as run at the Dunedin demonstration under: the U.F.B.A. rules and conditions, bo run in connexion with the C.P. and F.8.A., whenever it is hold. Foreman HefCord (Ashburton) said that he objected to the .r.crait, as the smaller brigades had only one motor. _ When a demonstration was held the engine would be away from tho station, and in the event of a fire some delay would be caused. The chairman said that they could always borrow an engine from the larger stations. The remit was carried. Officers clectod were:—President, Captain R. A. Stokes; vice-presidents, Superintendent C. Tyler, Engineer H. Hessey; secretary, Captain 0. D. Boyd; treasurer, Foreman R. Carson; auditor, Mr C. Mullington; brigade representatives. Hefford, Branchman J. G. Ilines, Engineer W. Fritchett, and Engineer E. Cummingham; trustees, Superintendent C. C. Warner, and Deputy-Superintendent C. Blake.
