The playing of this event will i be announced later. ! E. J. Tucker set a merry pace when he won the first bogey match of the season at Ashburton with a score of 7 up. It will be a hard mark to live up to. There was a large turn-out, for the monthly bogey match of the Christchurch Ladies' Club, played at Shirley on Thursday. The scores of both seniors and juniors show improvement. The winner in the Silver Division was Mrs T. H. A. Bichards, who, with a handicap of 6, p was 1 up. Miss Betty Rutherford (16) was 2 down, which was the best of the Bronze Division. (■ During the week the third match in the Borthwick Vase was played, and E. W. Hasell (10) beat L. Bonnington (6) by 1 up. ■ C. A. Seymour and H. E. Button, who tied in their match last Saturday,!will play again to-morrow, and the- winner of that match will plav L. A. Dougall <o), while «T. Dolph (7) plays E. W. Hasell (10). Occasional showers and colder weather have .ushered in an active golf season in Wellington, with the courses about as they should be. Wo could do with more rain, •as the local courses are becoming quite hard and fast again. The heavy dews have, however, brought on a good' growth of grass, and the staff at Shirley has to keep cutting all the time to keep it in control. < • The ladies of the Avondale Club are getting into good form, and reductions jof handicaps are frequent. During the I last week-end the following reduced: Miss Kattray to ' 15, Miss Thornton to 19, and Miss Maindonald to 20, both moving into the senior division; Miss Baxter, a promising young player, reduced five strokes last week, and has now reduced another five, giving her a handicap of 21; Miss Lawlor, another promising player, reduced her handicap by the scores she did at the Easter tournament at. Shirley, to 16. There has been much controversy in England of late as to the match-play-ing ability of Abe Mitchell, now' that he has become a free lance, with Hagen, Kirkwood,' 'and others. • 'Mitchell met his old opponent, George Duncan, in the 'final of the Roehampton tournament, and defeated .him by.3 upland 2 to play.
