POPPY DAY.
•—- THE ANNUAL APPEAL. To-day good citizens will be asked to subscribe modestly to the annual "Poppv Day" appeal for funds for the relief of unemployment among returned soldiers. In past years, the generous help given by the public in response to this appeal has helped many returned soldiers through difficult weeks and months, and those who have been working so zealously to make the 1926 appeal successful hope that the people of Canterbury will be as generous to-day as they have been in other years. Mrs W. S. Bean is the chairwoman of the committee, and with Mrs ■ Thacker and other helpers is doing all possible to help the cause. The stands to-day will be as follows: Cook and Ross's corner, Cambrian Society; Beresford corner and Cathedral, Navy League; Post Office and tram shelter, Harbour Lights Club; Bamett's corner, Mrs Munro; N Barlow's corner, j W.C.T.U.; Ballantyne's corner, Vic- ! toria League; Bank of Australasia, j Mrs Watkins; Tattersall's corner, Women War Workers. Poppies are obtainable at the White Star office.
