WAIMAIRI COUNTY.
ELECTION OF COUNCILLORS. An election for the purpose of filling vacancies in the Waimairi County Council was held yesterday. One Councillor was required for each of the following ridings:—Marshland, Styx, Avon, Belfast, Papanui, Wairarapa, Harewood, and Middleton, and two councillors were required for the Fendalton riding. An election for four ridings only was necessary* In the case of the Styx, Papanuij Wairarapa, Harewcod, and Middleton ridings, no election was required, as only one candidate was nominated, that being the sitting member in each case. The voting in the other four ridings, which was not very heavy, resulted as follows: Belfast riding:—John Cleland, 131 votes; J. R. D. Johns, 10b' votes. Marshland riding:—W. J. Walter, 209 votes : David Goode, 59 votes. Avon riding:—Henry Paterson, 122 votes; Henry P. Seymour, 46 votes. / Fendalton riding:—Henry Kitson, 406 votes; G. T. Mulcock, 210 votes; James Seymour, 167 votes; G. E. Curry, 166 votes. The new Council is now constituted as follows:—Styx riding, W. P. Spencer ; Avon riding, H. Paterson; Marshland riding, W. J. Walter; Harewood riding, G. Shipley; Papanui riding, R. W. HawEe; Wairarapa riding, O. E. Cross; Middleton riding, T. O. Newnham, Fendalton, H. Kitson and G. T. Mulcock.
