FALSE PRETENCES.
YOUTH COMMITTED FOR : .SENTENCE.. . (MKSS ISBOCUTIOK TELEGRAM.) HAWERA, April 22. Frederick Norman Laylor .Walker, -m youth aged seventeen, of Stratford, ap?' peared at the Hawera Court to answer charges of false pretences. He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. Evidence was to. the effect that the accused had obtained his fathers' cheque book, went to a motor dealer at Stratford, and selected a secondhand motbor-cycla. He tendered a cheque, which was later found to be. worthless. The dealer stopped the registration of the cycle, and the accused proceeded to Hawera where he selected clothing valued at £23, and tendered a cheque for its payment. He disappeared when enquiry was being made from the bank. He then bought some benzine, and tendered Another cheque, and received change in cash. He then ; proceeded to Patea, where he ordered a conjplete outfit of clothing. The shopkeeper's suspicions were aroused, and the accused was detained. The police were communicated with, and he was arrested. A plea of guilty was entered.
