William O'Connor and William Joseph Brosnahan pleaded not guilty to a charge of being disorderly while drunk in Manchester street, on April 20th. Brosnahan was further charged with using obscene language, and O'Connor with being on licensed premises during prohibited hours. Georges F. Webster, licensee of the Escelsior Hotel, stated that be had been called out of b»d at 12.20 a.m. in the morning of April 20th. He had gone to the front door, where he saw the two accused. Mr C. S. Thomas, for the accused, said that on.the evening of April 19th O'Connor had been at Fullers', and later had had supper ■with a friend. He had only two whiskies during the evening, and about midnight had left for his own home. When passing the Excelsior Hotel, he saw Brosnahan, who was trying to secure lodgings there. As Brosnahan was unsuccessful, he offered to put him up for the night. While they were walking along Manchester street they had been arrested. "There is certainly a strong case against the accused," said the Magistrate. "They will both be found guilty." O'Connor was fined £2' for being on licensed premises, and £3 and costs for being disorderly whilo drunk.
