LIFE-SAVING.

MONICA THACKER SHIELD. The Monica Thacker swimming and lifesaving shield was competed for in the Tepid Baths last evening, a large attendaiice ot those interested witnessing some good events. The successful team was the ladies of the United Club, which won from the ladies of the Chriatchurch Club by a margin of 1J points. Mr S. K. Bossett, chairman of the LueSaving Society, said that a competition should be held later in the year between the United Club ladies' team and the winners of the Sir John Hall shield, a trophy for ewimmingl and life-saving for "boye similar to the Monica Thaoke* shield, whfch waft won by the Boys' High School team. The results were as follows: United Swimming Club (Misses P. Wilkineon, J. Wilkinson, M. Johnston, D. Dickinson, instructor Mies I. Agassiz) water drill 236 points, land drill 228} points, total 46*3 points 1; Christohurch Ladies' Club' ffliesee T. Morrisey, M. Feaver, E. Terris, R. MoGrath, instructor Miss D. Brown), water driil 240 points, land drill 222} points, total 462} points 2; Girls' High School B team [Misses Z. Chennells, A. Chapman, B. Clark, 0. Hawkins, instructor Mrs L. M. Davie*). water drill 210 points, land drill 171} point*,' total 381} points 8; Girls* High School A team (Misses W. Watson, M. Kidder, P. Denniff, L. Denniff, instructor Mrs U, M. Daviea), water drill 199 points, land drill 166} points, total 365} points 4. The competition was judged by Messrs P. G. Bamford, P. J. Glackin. E. A. Chivers, and P. L. J. Scott. After the events, the judges remarked upon the high standard of the swimming and life-saving, and considered that the Girls' High School team had given a good exhibition for young performers.
