PEACE TIME WORK. REPORT OF FINANCE COMMITTEE. The following is a report to hand of a ' meeting of the Red Cross Financo Committee held on April 12th:— There wero present—Mr J. A. Flasher (chairman), Lady Wigram, Mrs H. H. Smith, , Miss Guthrie, Dr. M. G. Louisson, and Mr H. L. Bowker. 1 A report from Sister Clark as to her work in tlio Mayrield, Eakaia, Tinwald, Hinds, and Wakunui districts with rcferenco to lionienursing classes, health talks, and other work dining the month of March was received. , The report also stated that & large homenursing class had been formed at Methvftn, and that regular health talks were being given at the Ashburton Technical School. Sister Clark wrote stating that she anticipated her work would end in the Ashburton and Rakaia district early in May, therefore, as her contract time with the Society expired on May Bth, she tendered her resignation as at that date. It was resolved that her resignation should be passed on to headquarters office, Wellington. A letter was received from headquarters office stating that as Auckland Centre wag not asking for the services of a nurse, this Centre could make its plans in anticipation of Nurse Christian's early 'arrival. A discussion took place as to the scope and methods of Nurse Christian's work on her arrival here, but it was decided to wait until she arrived and then call a meeting of the joint committee (evening suggested) to discuss her future work. A letter was received from headquarters office stating that the League of Eed Cross Societies was prepared to accept any member of the nursing profession recommended by the New Zealand Society for a scholarship course provided applicants ale prepared to defray nil cost, estimated by the meeting to be approximately £550, including steamer fares. It was resolved that, under the circumstances, the Centre take no action. Imprest Account. A letters was received from headquarter* offica covering a remittance of £75 for the purpose of opening an imprest account in connexion with peace time work, the Centre to accept liability for all expenses in connexion with the nurse's services, viz,, travelling expenses, etc., whilst headquarters paid salary and uniform allowance. A letter was received from the Christchurch U.S.A., asking if the Society would send a wreath for the Ansao Day march, and with reference to the commemoration service to take place in King Edward Barracks on 251 h inst. It was resolved that the depot should obtain a wreath, and that 20 tickets for the servioo be applied for. The chairman read correspondence with Mr Fisher with reference io a letter received by the chairman from the Ecv. Barnott, of Timvald, Mr Fisher having ■ written to the l!ev. Barnott criticising Bed Cross work. .The correspondence was received, and the chairman's action approved. A loiter was received from headquarters oftko covering a letter from the Nelson treasurer, with a copy of their balftiice-sheet to March 31st, 10J5, which showed that they held £1705 Is 7d. A letter was received from headquarters office covering a letter from the Ashburton treasurer, with a copy of their balance-sheet to March 31st, 1925, which showed that they held £650 3s lOd. Headquarters office stated that Mr Ferriman, of Ashburton, was deputed to get into touch with headquarters secretary in connexion with their affairs, but he had not yet done so. Other Details, A letter was received from headquarters office covering cheque for i'4o, being amount received from Health Department on account of picture expense* at Hanmer for lha year «ndcd Maroh 31st, 1025. A letter covering remittance for £6G 17s Sd, being a further instalment from the estate of Mrs A. M. Smith, was received. A letter covering an invitation for delegates to attend the second fan-American Conference to be held in Washington during May-June, 1926, was received. A letter was received from head office. It was suggested that th» North Canterbury Hospital Board should be asked to bear an equitable proportion of the cost of Red Cross Club service* at Cashmere. It was reported that this would bo done when figures were obtained to the 31st v\i. It waß resolved that the current account in the Union Bank of Australia bo closed, and an account opened in tho National Bank, Christchurch. Th» financial statement* showed that during the month of March 197 ex-Service patients had received attention at tho Upper Sanatorium, Cashmere Hills, at Queen Mary Hospital, Hanmer, at the Kannerdala Home, at the Coronation Hospital, at tho Mental Hospital, at the Christchurch Hospital, and as out-patients, and that the expenditure on clothing, tobacco, hospital requisites, food, motor hit*, cards, and grants to the various matrons for miscellaneous purchases, ha* totalled £227 10s 2d. In addition to the foregoing, expenditure on Red Cross Club work, which provided moving pictures, furnishings, cards, newspapers, books, and magaiines, had totalled £SB 3s 8d for the same r*riod.
