ST. JOHN AMBULANCE.

APPEAL REALISES 5567. The St. John Ambulance Association met last night. Present—Messrs J. A. JTleshor (chairman), Mrs H, H. Smith, Mrs J. V. Peake, Miss Ironside, Dr. Borrie,. Dr. J. R. Thomas, Lieut.-CoJ. Dawson, Lieut.-Col. F. B. Crcswell, Messrs H. L. Bowkor, Purdon, Beckonsell,. and J-..C. .Treleaven (secretary). The chairman stated that the net results from the annual appeal to date were £367 9s Sd. The conditions under which an ambulance should be sent out came up for discussion in connexion with the motoring accident at Porter's Pass last Monday. The injured man was brought to Springfield on Tuesday and. an ambulance asked for. The secretary had to refuse the request owing to the rule which stated that an ambulance could not be sent out more than "J miles from Christchurch except under special conditions. The action of the secretary was endorsed by the' committee. It was decided to establish two additional first aid depots, one at the Selwyn Huts and another at South Brighton. Dr. Jessie Scott, Mrs Bishop, Dr. Borrie, and Major Gray were appointed a sub-com-mittee to meet the Bed Cross Committee regarding future peace time work in the Centre. A letter was received from the Wellington Centre of the St. John Ambulance Association asking what arrangements had been made between the Bed Cross Society and the St. John Ambulance Association. It was decided to lepTy that representatives of both bodies were on each of the organisation's committee and complete harmony existed.
