LYTTELTON NEWS.
Magistrate's Court; Mr H. Y. Widdowson, S.M., presided at tho Magistrate's Court yesterday. For breaches of their prohibition orders, James Markham and Josephine Markham were convicted and fined 40s, in default 14 days, and 20s, in default seven days' imprisonment, respectively. For procuring liquor during tho currency of a prohibition ordor Frank Moylan was fined 20s, in default seven days. For a similar offence, George Anderson Smith was lined a like amount. Rowing Club Carnival. The Lyttelton Rowing Club's tug-of-war carnival commences to-night at the Drill Hall. Tho Mayor (M» F. E. Sutton) will open the carnival at 7.30. Good entries hove been received in both open and junior classes, and some spirited pulling can be expected. Variety stalls and numerous side-shows will be a feature of the evening. The object of the carnival is to raise funds for the building of a new boathouse. The following teams are drawn for the first round:—Fire Brigade v. Gun Club, Rowing Club v. Band, Heaps' team v. Coalies, Poultry Club v, Reynold's team.
