- ' 4 FIFTH ANNUAL CONFERENCE. (PBXSS 18SOCUTXOH TXtXOBMt) WELMNGTON, April 20. At the opening of th® fifth unnnal conference of the State Forert Service the Hon 0. J. Hawkefy Minister for Agriculture, said he looked on th* Department as largely commercial. The future of ti large part of the Dominion was bound up with its forests. Large areas not suitable for agriculture were well suited for '<ree planting and a forward move in re-afforestation of these lands would soon be necessary. Tho noxious weeds problem could be abolished by tree planting. Referring to the numerous afforestation companies formed in New Zealand he warned investors to satisfy themselves regarding the risks of fire, pests, etc., before putting in their
money. .
