DR. M'EACHERN'S REPORT. general principles APPROVED. Opinions on Dr. MacEachorn's report on New Zealand hospitals were ghcn vesterday by Mr 11. J- Otley, chairman of the Hospital Board, and Dr. Fox, Medical Superintendent ot thc Hospital. <Dr MaclSachern is a very admirable man '' said Mr H. J. Otley, "but be had to make a flying visit through Now Zealand. Considering the short epactof time lie spent here lie has picked things up wonderfully, but his experience has been in America, a very large country indeed, and a good many of liis recommendations are not applicable to New Zealand.' Mr Otley added that he was quite in favour of tho general trend of Dr. MaoEachern's suggestions, but different conditions in New Zealand made some of his ideas impracticable here. As an example of this Mr Otley cited Dr. MacEachern's recommendation for a strong individual effort so far as subscriptions wevfi concerned. This was all right in America, where all hospital support was voluntary, but in New Zealand a different position existed, where everybody had to assist in hospital maintenance. Favourod by Medical Man. "The report reflects the opinion of the medical profession generally," said Dr. Fox, "and a great majority of us are in favour of it." Dr. Fox added that the report was now in the hands of the Hospital Board, which body would decide what should be given effect to.
