Shortly after 9 o'clock last night the Christchurch Fire Brigade were called to Papanui. On arrival it was found that tne alarm was false. The Drainage Board had before it last night _ a Tetter from Mr J. R. Roots, asking for a settlement in connexion with the Woodham road sewer contract. Mr Roots was under the necessity of throwing np this contract owing to difficulties with quicksand The matter was referred to the Works Committee to report.
