HEATHCOTE NOTES.
On Saturday sight in the Hcathcote Hall, a very enjoyable social and dance were held, in aid of stalls for the chrysanthemum show, which is to be conducted shortly by the local club. Those present wero: Mesdames Bettle, Deavoll, Henry, Low, Nixon, Perkins, Read, and Dixon, Hisses Deavoll (2), Smith, Gray, King (2), Scott (2), Head (3), Nicholas, and Sellars, Messrs Flavell, Bettle, Elson, Henry, King, Read (B), Gemmel, Smith (2), Angus (2), Wood, Connolly, Nixon (2), Hill, Deavoll, and Perkins. The programme included, besides the usual one-steps and fox trots, two or three of the old-fashioned but very enjoyable sets, into which the dancers threw themselves with" vim and vigour. Also item? were given by Mr Henry, in the form of-songs and a monologue, which were greatly appreciated by all. The music was supplied by Mrs Loney and Mr W. Angus. Bowling. Beautiful weather prevailed for the closing of the bowling season at Heathcote on Saturday afternoon. Besides a. large nuni* ber of local players, there were representatives from Sumner, Lyttolton, and Sydenham Clubs. During the afternoon, Mr C. Flavoll, in the absence of the president, Mr J. Bound, presented the trophies won during the season, as followB:—Mr Hamilton's trophy for the winner of the singles handicap, to J. Collier; Mr Whitford's trophy for the singles championship, to J. Morgan; and Mr Jwman'B trophy for the runner-up in the singles championship, to T. H. Williams, Mr Flavoll congratulated the winners, and referred to the good position of the club after its four years' existence. A vote of thanks was passed to the ladies, for supplying afternoon tea. Valedictory. On Saturday evening a number of ladies met at the residence of Mrs Stowe, Horotane Valley, to bid bon voyage to Mrs Hornung, who, together with Mr Hornung and family, is leaving shortly for a trip to Europe. The evening took the form of a "handkerchief evening," and tha time was passed pleasantly away in competitions and other amusements. Mrs Stowe sang a solo and Miss L. Hill played a pianoforte solo. Those present were:—Mrs G. Hornung, Mrs L. Shearman, Mis K. Preeco. Mrs G-. Hill, Mrs F. King, Mrs Brooks, Mrs G. Benson, Mrs Patterson, Mrs C. Shields, Mrs T. Leathwick, Mrs Adams, Mi3S Prcoeo and "Miss L. Hill. On tho same evening a number of Mr Hornung's gentlemen friends paid him a, visit at his residence, to offer him their good wishes for a pleasant holiday.
