FIRE BOARD.
——♦ — MONTHLY MEETING. The Clu-isteliurch Fire Board met at the Central Station, Lichfield street, last night. Present: Messrs A. Williams (chairman), 3. R. Cameron, K. H. Andrews, H. R. Rusbridge, A. D. Ford, K. \V. Robinson, and G. D. MeIlraith. Mr J. H. Timms wrote regarding tho danger of aceidents to pedestrians and others from tho fire engine when going to a fire. He suggested that there should bo sent ahead of the engine a man on a motor-cycle, or in a small car, with a siren. Ho could act as a pilot to the engine. This, ho- considered, would minimise danger considerably. The letter was received. The Deput.v-Superintendont reported that the total number of calls received from February 3rd to date was 24. Of these seven wero false alarms (three malicious), four were hedge and grass tires, and 13 were for actual fires, including one in tho Riccarton borough and one in the Cashmere tiro area. The estimated fire lows during the period was £3280. Insurances on buildings and contents were £21,230. The estimated value of propfrty involved was £28,000.
