NORTHERN A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

* MEETING OF COMMITTEE. A meeting of the committee of the Northern A. and P. Association was held in the Agri-cultural-Hall. yestdrday morning. Tho president, Mr C. Mcintosh, wis in the chair, and nineteen members were, present. The secretary, of the Canterbury A. and P. Association wrote, in accordance with notico received from the Director-General of Agriculture, asking Tor nomination for a representative on the Board of Agriculture, and also for a delegate to attend a meeting of the A. and P. Societies on March 19th, to confirm the appointment. The chairman stated that Mr H. S. S. Kyle, M.P., had accepted nomination, and his name had been forwarded to the Department. The president was appointed to attend the conference. Messrs J. Stevenson, R. Peach, and G. H. Hassell were appointed delegates to the South Island Federation of A. and P. Associations. The secretary: read tho result of the canvass on behalf of tho building fund. The amount received was £389 18s 3d. Tho president was the most successful canvasser, his book showing £129 15s 4d. Others were: Messrs Mac Donald and W. Stalker £63 lis, Messrs J. Inch and T. Leech £22 6s, Messrs D. Kamsey and G. H. Hassell £24 7s Gd, Mr L. Loffhagen £l3 lGs, Mr H. Tallott £27 10s, Mr W. A. Kelcher £l7 Is lOd, Mr 3. Brosnan £l3 12s, Messrs T. Erickson and D. G. Stalker £l3 2s, Mr 11. Dickhoff £2B, Mr U. Mcintosh £l2 14s, Messrs J. Petrio and W. Smith £2-1 2s 7d. On the motion of Mr C. Leech it was decided that a letter be sent to the Borough Council, with a request that the right of. way at the back of the memorial be opened up and the channel bridged. It was decided not to remove any of the trees growing on the Ashley river-bed, acquired by the Association for the extension of their grounds. In connexion with the farm.Toots competition, the chairman stated that Messrs Kempthornc and Prosscr had donated a ton of superphosphate, and the North Canterbury Freezing Works a half-ton of their blood manure. It was decided to send letters of thanks to these firms. Mr R. 0. Macdonald, on behalf of tho Andrews Twine Company, offered to give two bales of twino as a special prize, which was accepted with thanks. In order to arouse interest amongst the farmers in the competition, representatives of the Association were appointed in each district to canvass for entries. Mr T. S. Hanna brought up the question of purchasing a piano for use in the hall. It was decided to leave the matter until the annual meeting.. - Mr P.. E. "Ward, of the Department. of Agriculture, attended the meeting in connexion with the Department's scheme of farmers' schools. - Mr Ward explained that these schools had been tried now fpr the last three years, and had been a decided success. The • travelling schools had been the most successful, as they reached the largest number of farmers. It was suggested holding tho school at JUngiora, Hawarden, and Cheviot for the first week, the second -week to be at Sheffield, Ashburton, and Timaru . It was decided to support the arrangements made,, and give every assistance necessary in making the school a success. Mr W. Stalker was appointed to assist Mr yfaxi.n carrying out the arrangement*. ■ *
