CHRISTCHURCH CENTRE. The Christcliurch Bowling Centre met last night. Present: Messrs T. AV. Ambrose (chairman), H. B. Oakey, H. Firman, C. M. Clarke, W. Hayward, W. Hollis, H. Burson, F. Penberthy, F. E. Barrett, J. Morgan, F. Stcans, L. B. Evans", D. E. Wood, E. Summers, G. W. 0. Smitbson, W Spiller, C. Piper, A. Dickson, T. Freeman, W. Poole, J. D. Colville, T. W. Rpse, and E. W. Wade (hon. secretary). • . Apologies were received from Messrs A. J. Bcnaiio and John Brown. •The Sydenham Club wrote that its green would be closed for top-dressing after the 6th inst, and would not be available for the Eastor tournament. In response to n circular letter from the New Zealand Sports' Protection League, it was decided .to support the movement tor daylight saving. ~ The Wellington Centre wrote regretting the necessity for cancelling the visit of a Wellington team this season to competo for tho Barnett tiki. The season had been a poor one, and difficulty had been experienced in getting a team to visit Chrißtchuroh. The Centre was prepared to send a team next year. * Mr Stcans moved that . tho Wellington Centre's suggestion. fce accepted. Mr Dickson remarked that if this was agreed to the Christcliurch Centre would have to make provision for two visiting teamß next year, An nmondment was agreed to that the match bo played in Wellington next year. The colours submitted by the Sydenham Club were approved. Testing of Bowls. Mr Firman moved, la accordance with notice given: "That all bowls to be used in the finals of the Centre championship matches shall be tested on the green before play, commences." The mover said that lie had beon, through tournaments since tho matter was discussed previously, and he was convinced that some of tho bowls were not what they should be. Mr Wood seconded pro forma. Mr Colville said that there was a likelihood that the Council would order that all bowls must be restampea. Mr Wood remarked that the testing should take place before the finals. Mr Steans considered that the motion, if agreed to, would make , players careful to see that their bowls conformed to tho test. Mr Oakey was of opinion that the testing should bo done before the championship started. . Mr Firman accepted an addition, suggested by Mr Burson, that the rule should come into force next year. The secretary said that the position in respect of restainping was ; that at the latest meeting of the Council the Timaru delegate moved that all bowls stamped before 1925 be declared illegal, and that only those bearing tne 1926 stamp shall pass the umpires. The motion had been held over for consideration at the September meeting of the Council. Some discussion ensued arising out of a statement that bowls could be altered after testing. The member who made the remark said that he had been told that it could be done, but he had never known of it being done. • Several members: It has been done. Mr Wood: I knew one man who used to boast about itl On a show of hands there was an equality of voting, and the chairman gave his vote against the motion, and declared it lost. Touts and Matches. Mr Oakey reported ou the Centre team's visit to Oamaru and Dunedin in counexion with the Redpath Shield match. On his motion it was decided to send letters of thanks to the Oamaru and Dunedin Centres, and the Directors of tho Exhibition, for their entertainment of the Christchurch toain. Mr Barrett asked why the selectors made their selections from 13 out o£ the SO clubs in the Centre. Mr Bursou said that when 28 players were to bo selected it would mean, if Mr Barrett's idea was given effect to, that no two members of the selected two would have played together. The idea wa3 quito impracticable. Out of the members of the Redpath Shield team originally selected, fifteen had been unable to go. Mr Steans said that for the Redpath Shield they hud to select the best players. It was not practicable to select teams on the basis suggested. Mr Barrett said that if they dld not give a member of each club a chance of plaving in theso teams, the game was not worth the candle, and the Centre would not get the support of the clubs whose members got no chance of being selected. No motion having been submitted, the matter dropped.
