WATCH ON RHINE.
GERMANY ANNOYED. (BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPY3IIOHT.) (AUSTRALIAN aSD N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) BEELIN, January 15. The news that the Allied Army of Occupation in the Rhineland still numbers 75,000, has aroused angry disappointment in Germany. Newspapers say that the fact is a strange commentary upon the spirit of the Locarno Pact, and they hope the Government will give strong expression to the indignation of the German people that an army of such a size makes it evident that the promises made at Locarno will not be fulfilled.
[The occupied area of the Rhineland was divided into three zones. The Cologne zone, which was to remain in Allied occupation for five years from the coining into force of the Treaty, has only recently been evacuated. The Coblenz and Mainz bridge-heads are to be evacuated in 1930 and 1935 respectively. Some of the British troops, which end the Cologne bridge-head, have been transferred to the Mainz zone.]
