CLOUDS HINDER OBSERVERS. (BY CABLE —PRESS ASSOCIATION—'IOPYRIOHT.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) ' B ATA VIA, January 14. Fifty astronomers from many countries who observed the solar eclipse achieved mixed results according to the site. Though the sky was not perfect, the leader of the British expedition at Bencoolen, on the west coast of Sumatra, carried out his full programme and saw a corona similar to that observed in India in 1899.
Contrary clouds prevented completely satisfactory - results being obtained at Palerobang, on the opposite side of'the island.
