Holy Trinity Church. On Sunday morning, members of the Kilwinning and Unanimity Masonic Lodges attended Divine service at Holy Trinity Church, when the vicar preached on Masonic ideals as finding-their fullest expression in Christianity. The lessons were read hy a Past Master of each Lodge, Worshipful Brother 11. Law, from the Lodge of Unanimity, and Worshipful Brother J. Carson, from Canterbury Kilwinning. In thn evening the choir rendered the cantata, "The Coming of Emmanuel," to an appreciative congregation. . Those taking solos or parts wore Mias B. Muxlow, Mrs A. Swaby, Miss L. Crocker, Miss F. Barraclough, and Messrs F. Roberton, W. Whittakor, W. Carson, S. Tredennick, and E. Muxlow. Borough Councii. Tho Lyttelton Borough Council met last evening. Present: The Mayor (Mr F. E. Sutton), Crs. G. S. Morris, A. McDonald, W. K. Newton, SDd M. J. Miller. Tho Minister of Defence, the Hon. Sir R. lleaton Rhodes, wrote in reply to a lotter sent by the Council aßking that the small reserve below the Drill Shed be loased to tho Council for a children's playground. McDonald, and thn Mayor were appointed a sub-committco to report on tho question of making by-laws dealing with motor and vehicular traffic. Tbo question of planting a bolt of trees on the reclaimed land for the Harbour Board was left in tho hands of tho Chairman ol Estates and Cr. Miller. _ It was resolved that salaries ana wages bo reviewed at tho next meeting of tho General Purposes Committee. The Town Clerk was instructed to write to Crs. W. Wales and .1. R. Webb, expressing tho members' very sincere sympathy with thorn iu their illnesses, and wishing them a speedy recovery. The gas manager submitted a report on the question of Dales of gas cookers »nd coppers. It was docidod that -tho gas manager purchaso stoves, etc., required, tho terms o£ sale to be £1 deposit and 10s per month. The tender of the Shaw, SaVill, and Albion Company, Ltd., for tbo lease of the store occupied by them at Gladstone quay was accepted. Tho price tendered was £165 per year, tho term of tho lease to bo 21 years. On tho recommendation of tho 15stat.es Committee it was decided that the Christchurch City Council be written to asking if they will erect a shelter-shed on the beach at Corsair Bay, according to plan to be prepared, details to be left in the hands of the Town Clerk and engineer to attend to. At tho conclusion of tho business, the Mayor wished the Councillors and staff a Merry Christmas and a very prosperous NewYear. Tho Councillors reciprocated. Anniversary Celebrations.
