MALVERN POWER BOARD.

At the monthly meeting of the Malvern Electric Power Board held on Tuesday, those present were Messrs Judd (chairman), Hall, Oliver, Millar, and Deans. An apology for absence was received from Mr Mulholland. -The Board adjourned for a brief period owing to the death of the Queen Mother. A resolution of sympathy was passed to Mr AV. "W. Mulholland on the loss of his little son. Members congratulated the two Solwyn representatives (Messrs Hall and Oliver) on tbc suecess of tho turning-on ceremony which had taken plnco the week previous. This is now the third centre which has been supplied with current, and Gleutuniiel is looking forward to a supply at an early date, some of the houses being in readiness at the present time. The report stated that the necessary guarantee had been obtained on the Sheffield line, and authority was given to proceed with the pegging out as soon an possible. In hasten the matter the Board decided to engage' additional field assistance, and Mr R. A. Priestly, of Wanganui, will take up his duties in a few days l In order to increase the day load. Mr J. D. Hall obtained information with reference to electric ranges and other cooking ap_ pliances, and the question was considered of trading in electrical equipment solely with the object of increasing the sale of current. At present one hundred and fifty consumers were connected with the mains, seven of whom had installed ranges. Poles were laid out to "Whitecliffs, around Coalgatc. and for about two miles along the Downs road, and the pole erecting contractor had completed Glentunnel, and was proceeding to ■\Vhitecliffs. The wiring, including the erection of transformers, was completed as far as the Hororata Church* and was now proceeding between there and the toalgate township. , The Board was concerned to learn mat a very grave breach of the by-laws had occurred near Darfield. when a resident made a temporarv connexion without authority, and without his installation being tested, thereby using current without its being metered for payment; endangering his house bv fire should the installations have proved faultv: and risking interference with the supply to other consumers. The matter was considered too serious to pass over. Mr H i. Millar, representing Tawera, reported that he had called a meeting at Springfield to enable intending consumers to obtain first hand information. Itnssells Flat would be canvassed, then Springbeid, and on to Kowai Bush.
