ENGLISH PARK.

ANNUAL PICNIC. The annual picnic of St. Albans, SehooV took place on Saturday in the Glentunnel Domain. Over 500 parents, scholars, and friends assembled for the outing. The ''unsettled weather conditions of the previous evening no doubt kept some away, but those who took advantage of the improvedconditions on Saturday morning were rewarded with an enjoyable day's outing. Daring the afternoon, in response to an invitation from the, boys, of the Glentunnel School, the senior boys played a friendly cricket match, but owing to the unfavourable condition of the ground, the grasa being too long, no big scores were recorded. SATURDAY'S SPORTS. MATCH RACE POSTPONED. Heavy scattered showers of rain failed to dampen the spirit of the patron & of the sports held at the English Park Stadium on. Saturday night, for a fair crowd of spectators witnessed a programme of varied events.. However it rained so heavily .during-the evening that two or mo.ro of the large electric lamps which light the track burst, glass being scattered on the asphalt. The megaph'onist imparted to t the croWd the knowledge that 'the officials in the arena -were wet "np to the knees" at S> o'clock, and that , the sports would be discontinued. Although advertised as being the chief aitrac-' tion on the bill, the match race between Cyril Sowden and "Jumbo" "Wells did not take place, the officials considering the track to be .too. wet and greasy.
