SKETCH CLUB EXHIBITION.

——♦ I PRESENTATION TO MR JAMES COOK. . ■• A largw; gathering assembled • on ' Friday evening at the' School of Art for the Sketch Cfub Exhibition, the last of the present year. The display -was a remarkably good one, and formed a fitting conclusion to the year's activities. Mr L. H. Booth was the critic oif the evening, and his sound remarks and advice to the students was much appreciated by all. The set subject was a design for a poster illustrating "Beauty Spots of Chrifltchurch." The prize was awarded to Mr Alfred Cook,.' Mr A. E. Wildey secured the award in tie open section. A presentation was made to Mr James Cook, winner of tie Sawtell Travelling Art Scholarship, and two local scholarships .were awarded Owing to the generosity of, Mr B. li. Wigley, of tie Mt. Cook HemriUti*. two students of the Sketch Club are enabled to spend fourteen d'ays at the Hermitage for the purpose of sketching in the district. Messrs Buseell Clark and Alfred Cook have Mr A. P. Niooll, speaking on behalf of the students of tie School of Art, said that Mr Cook's progress" at the School of Art had been most marked,. and they bdiev«d that he will establish himself as an.artist of note and' leave work that would endure. In art the track seemed obscure and full of doubts, but they felt sure that Mr Cook would go forward without fear. Mrs B. Wallwork, as president of the Sketch' Club, said the past year had been a momentous year in the history of the club. The visit of Mr Sydney Thompson had done much for them. At the beginning of the year they had' said farewell to Mr R. Wallwork, Who left on a -sketching trip abroad, and now they had met to say, farewell to Mr Cook. ' . ~ , Mr Cook was presented with several tokens; In reply, he thanked Mrs Sawtell, the Imperial Culture Society, the staff, the students, and all those who'had been so generous towards him. He hoped he would be able to do well abroad, and prove worthy of the trust that had been placed m him.
