HEATHCOTE COUNTY COUNCIL.

♦ The Heathcote County Council mot last night. Present—Crs. C. Flavell (chairman), A. H. Adams, W. W. Scarff, B. Kiley, J. H. Moore, W. Kerr, and A. F. Smith. On behalf of the Inter-City Bus Service the North Beach and Waimairi Burgesses' Association applied for permission to use "Wsinoni road for a service between North Beach and the City. The application was declined with regret, the road being closed to heavy traffic. The Cashmere Hills Recreation Club wrote advising that its water supply was hardly adequate, and suggesting that something should be done to augment it. It was agreed that the supply be augmented at the club's expense; that the quantity of water used be controlled by the Cashmere foreman, and that the charge for the water be fixed later.

A complaint was received from the United Burgesses' Association regarding the unsatisfactory state of Page's road, and the Association asked the Council to co-operate with the other local bodies concerned in effecting the very necessary repairs as soon as convenient. "I don't know what they are complaining about," said Cr. Moore. "The road's in better condition now that! it was two months ago." The Council decided to reply that any necessary repairs would be done. It was agreed to give £5 5a- towards the anniversary celebrations. A deputation from the Beautifying Association, consisting of Messrs E. H. Andrews and It. B. Owen, waited on the Council. Their business was, said Mr Andrews, to talk about the strip of land, now a gravel reserve, on the south side of the Heathcote river, near Harrington street, Cashmere. There were about three acres there, he saidi, and the Society and the people in the district were of the opinion that it. could to made a domain or recreation ground. Ii had been rumoured that the Tramway Board was trying to get hold of it for a shunting ground. Mr Owen urged the Council, as trustee? m to consider the matter seriously, and huv,. the land gazetted as a public reserve. Thp Council would still have control of the lend. On Cr. Scarff's motion it was decided that the matter lie on the table till nest meotinpr. The county clerk reported rhat on March 31st, 1925, there was £579 14s lOd outstanding in rates. Of this amount £561 7s 4<l had been collected. leaving the small amount of £lB 17s 6d outstanding. Of tho £l4 264 8a 6d of thift year's rates, £1073 0s 3d had' been collected. ' _ The Inspector reported that chirking and cleaning of water channels and' roads and footpaths -w«« being done in Hillsborough. He also reported on the work done in the other ridings.
