SWIMMING.

CHRISTCHURCH CLUB. A committee meeting of the Christchureh Amateur Swimming 1 Club was held on Wednesday night. Present—Messrs R. D. H. Brown (chairman), G. W. Gale, T. H. Barker, W. S. Burford, H. J. Wicks, S. Hollander, C. Curtis, and Wrcdrell. Seventeen r,ew members were elected. The hon. treasurer (Mr H. G. Wieiks> reported that the club had a. good credit balance. A letter was received from the St. Albans Club asking the club to put on a club race at their carnival on December 12th. It was decided to put on a club 75yds relay race. Tho following 1 were appointed to take charge of the baths on the following evenings:—Mondays, Mr H. Wicks; Tuesdays, Mr C. Curtis; Wednesdays, Mr N. D. H. Brown; Thursdays, Mr 3. Wrcdrell; Fridays, Mr R. D. H. Brown. The following programme wa« arranged : ?syds Dash, Tuesday, December Ist: 60yds, Saturday, December sth; 75yds, Tuesday, December Bth; 75yds Breaatstroko, Tuesday, December 14th. ' It was decided to hold the annual quartermile in the Estuary on December 19th, if the tides were suitable. Messrs F. ■ Da,ly and B. McClellan were elecled as junior members on the committee. N.Z. ASSOCIATION. The annual meeting of the Council of the New Zealand Amateur Swimming Association was held la«t evening, Mr W. E. D. Bishop presiding. There were also present: Messrs W H. Benson (Otngo), F.' G. Dunn (South Canterbury), J. Jackson (Hawke s Bay). J. R. Buchanan (Nelson). A. L. Wilkinson (Taranaki), A. MocDonald (Westland), C. Bryant (Wangnnui), B. Coulter (Canterbury), J 'W. Toomcy (Auckland), H. Levestam (Ashburton), A. R. Jacobson (Manawatu), and B. O'Neill (Wellington). The annual report stated that the sport had suffered during the season under review as a result of the epidemic of infantile paralysis, but the progress among the seniors had, nevertheless, been satisfactory. The prospects for the coming season were considered to be very bright. ■ The report and balance-sheet (which showed the finances to be in a healthy state) were adopted. Officers were elected as follows: —President, Mr W. E. D. Bishop; deputy-president, Mr W. H. Benson; lion, treasurer. Mr F. G. Dunn; hon. secretary, Mr B. O'Neill; hon. North Island representative. Mr P. N. Rundle; delegates to Nctw Zealand Olympic Council, Messrs P. N". Bundle and R. P. Staples; lion, handicapper, Mr P. Coira; hon. auditor Mr Randal h. Hicks. The Waverley Club Was granted affiliation. The Auckland Centre wroto asking that ! tho Council forward an invitation to Australia for five swimmers to visit Auckland early in the Mew Year. —It was resolved to comply with the request, provided the Auckland Centre provided a suitable guarantee to the extent of £SO against any loss on the part of the Association. It was also resolved to suggest to the Auckland Centre that it should take into consideration the advisability of inviting three swimmers instead of five.

(England) wrote stating that the position with regard to the proposal that Great Britain should sever its connexion with tho International Federation had undergone a change consequent on a proposal that a working arrangement _ should bo entered into between Great Britain and America, -whereby it was hoped that pressure would be bronght to bear on the Federation to ensure proper representation.—lt was resolved that tho British body be assured of the support of New Zealand in its proposals. The Australian Union notified that it was probable that an invitation would bo issued later in the season foT Miss Ena Stocklev of Auckland, the New Zealand ladv champion' to visit Australia to take part in tho Australian championships. It was resolved that a letter of congratula ion be forwarded to Mr C. E. Low on his selection as a Rhodes Scholar.
