The Oddfellows belonging to the ten lodges lorming the Ashley District were expecting to have a visit from the Grand Master of the Order in Xew Zealand, Bro. A. G. Shrimpton, or Nelson, and tho Grand Secretary, Bro. (i. E. Godbcr, of Wellington, on Monday evening, r.nd.had arranged to hold a banquet, on the occasion. On #Wednesday evening, however, the District (Secretary received a telegram-from the Grand Master stating that it was impossible for him to pay the visit on. the date arranged, and the banquet had to bo postponed indefinitely. . SEFTON. The annual meeting of the Scfton W.C.T.U. was held in the Presbyterian Schoolroom on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs Thome presided over a good attendance of members. A resolution supporting the "Xo more war" movement was passed by the meeting. The secretary's report was read, and the treasurer stated there was £3 Is 4d in hand. Reports were received also from the superintendents of the Band of Hope, White Ribbon, and social and philanthropic work. The following officers were elected: —President, Mr P. J. Thome; vice-presidents, Mrs J. Douds and Mrs Clarke; secretary, Mrs P. H. Ford; treasurer,' Miss Quick; White Ribbon agent, Mrs C. Allington; superintendent social work, Mrs Quick; superintendent Band of Hope, Mrs Withers. It was decided to hold ten minutes' temperance instruction every meeting. At the conclusion, afternoon tea was handed round. On Wednesday afternoon a very enjoyable children's party was given by 'Mrs I. Champion on the occasion of ! the birthday, of her daughter Lorna. A pleasant time was spent hy _ all. Among those present were C'hrissie Binnie, Muriel James, Marjorie James, Xancy Mehrtens, Moliie McGrath, Mnrijoiie Hales, Jean, Hazel, and Dori3 Wallace, Eileen Stokes, Phyllis Hales, Leonie Rountree, Eess and Joy Ford, June Withers, Josie Baines, Janet and Patty Hanna, and Sid Clarke, Brian Whittlcston, and Colin Ashworth. In the evening, the festivities were continued, when a number of adults spent a very jolly time. ASHLEY BANK. As a result of a social held in the schoolroom, the funds of St. Simon's and St. Jude's Church will benefit by over £lO. The ladies of the church are to be congratulated on making the evening the success it undoubtedly was: A guessing competition for a cake was won by Miss M. Wilson'■•'(Scffou)-and Mr G. Smith, who both guessed the correct weight, 51b !)oz. Lucky spot waltzes were' won by Miss Webber and partner, and Miss Jessie Banks and partner. Music for the dancing was supplied by Misses Phyllis Schmidt and E. Bowbyes, Messrs K. Sutherland, J. Whitham, and J. Simth. The duties of M.C.'s -were shared by the Rev. 'IT. F. Ault and Mr W. Stringer.

OKAIN'S BAY. Mr Chas. Samuel Fredrick Moore, who died at his residence, St.. Albans, on November 18th, at the age of 69 years, was one of the oldest and most respected residents of Okain's Bay. Mr Moore was born in- Okain's Bay in 185b and received his education at the local school. After leaving school ho worked on his father's farm, and on the latter's death, became owner of the property, which ho farmed successfully until liis retirement to Christchurch some vears ago. Mr Moure married Miss klarv Ann Mason, daughter of the late Mr Geo. Mason, sen., thus uniting two of the best known families of tho district. The late Mr Moore entered very largely into tho public life of Okain's Bay, serving for long periods on all local bodies. Ho was for very many years clerk to the Okain's Bav Road Board awl secretary to tho School, Hall, and Library Committees; he also at one timo-repre-sented Okain's Bay Road District on tho Akaroa County Council. He was one of the founders and original directors of tho Okain's Bay Co-op. Dairy Factory Company, on which lie served as a director for an unbroken term or •JI years until he left the district in 1915, and for the greater part of that timo was chairman. Mr Moore was one of the foundation members of the Lcval Hand of Friendship Lodge, 1.6.0.F.. M.U.. in which he held P.G. rank, and of which he was for a very long time permanent secretary. Of a deeply religious nature, Mr Moore was keenly interested in Church matters, be.in< T parishioners' warden of St. John's Church for a very long period. He taught for 4-5 years in the Ideal Sunday School, of which he was superintendent for nearly 20 years. On the outbreak of war in 191-I,'Mr Moore showed himself a zealous patriot eager that New Zealand should do all it "could to assist the Empire, both in men' and money, himself giving liberally in money and in goods to Red Cross and other war funds. Two ot his sons. Maurice O. Moore, and Eric X. Moore.'served; in the war, the former making the supreme sacrifice- on Oallipoli in 1915. In 1915 Mr Moore let. his farm to ono of his sons, and with Mrs Moore and family removed to tit. Albans, ChristcliuHi, whore they had since resided. Nearly eight years ago Mr Moore was unfortunately stricken with paralysis and was confined to his bed" from' that timo till lus death. Deep sympathy is expressed for Mrs C. S. F. Mooro and the familv of five sons and two daughtersMiss M. A. Moore (Chris!church). Mrs W. G. Graham (Okain's Bay). Messrs W H. A. and M. Moore (Hickory), C. B. Moore (Barry's Bay), E. X. Moore (Okain's Bay), and Clifford Moore Mr Moore's remains were interred at Okain'3 Bay on Saturday last, where there was a very large attendance of friends, including many from neighbouring bays and; from Cliristchnrch. and ten members of the Loyal Hand of Friendship Lodse, who were present in regalia. The Church of England service was conducted at the church axaveside by Rev. A. C Tnrchas, vicar of Akaroa: after which Bro., George Harris. P.G.M., of Canterbury 1.0.0.F..
