FREE BUTTER
MISLEADING HEADLINE. (mss ASSOCIATION TBLBGKAJI.) WELLINGTON, November 25. The Dairy Produce Board is being deluged with letters from Great Britain asking for free samples of New Zealand butter. It appears that under the heading of "Free Butter for Britain," the "Daily Mail'-' published a cablegram from its correspondent at Christchurch as follows: —"New Zealand' Dairy Produce Board has arranged for people in New Zealand to make Christmas "gifts of butter to friends in Great Britain. Cartons containing 411) of New Zealand butter will be delivered free to any address in Great Britain, with literature praising New Zealand enclosed in each carton, on which New Zealand produce will be freely advertised." Readers have evidently been misled by the headline, and havo not recognised that free delivery was dependent upon nomination and payment by friends in New Zealand. The Board is communicating with each of these correspondents, explaining where the error has arisen. It is unfortunate that disappointment should be thus associated with this method of popularising New .Zealand produce, which has been largely used by New Zealand residents since it was instituted by the Board.
