RANGIORA HIGH SCHOOL.

MEETING OF BOARD. The Rangiora High School Board met on Tuesday. Present: Messrs C. I. Jennings (chairman), C. "\V. Bell, AV. A. Banks, R. Ball, R. Hutchison, and Dr. I. IT. Allen. The chairman reported that the fitting up of the now domestic science classroom was almost completed, two shelter sheds and the boys' bicycle shed to accommodate 50 machines were finished, and the electric light had been installed in the girls' hostel. There now remained the work of erecting a shed on the farm and painting the principal's -residence. Tho principal (Mr J. E. Strachan) reported the roll number to he 137. The model farm made for the Exhibition "was giving the greatest satisfaction. He had pleasure, in drawing the attention of the Board' to the successes of ex-pupils of the school at recent College examinations. Twenty-one at Canterbury College had passed in two or more subjects, and Hoilier Payne won the geology prize. Helen Thompson, at Otago, had completed her home science diploma course, and had again taken the highest place in her classes. Two students one at Auckland and one at Victoria College, had also passed in terms. Mr Parr, Chief Inspector of (secondary Schools, recently visited the school and confirmed the recommendations of 28 senior free places. The .Joint Stork Trading Company promoted by the School Council had presented its annual report, which showed a very successful year's working. The Company bought about i.60 worth of second-hand books, most of whiih were resold, netting sufficient profit to pay a dividend of 12J per cent., with a considerable surplus placed to reserve. The Company had in view a considerable extension of business, and was issuing fresh capital at a premium of 50 per cent. The annual school picnic would be held .at Ashley Gorge on Monday. December 7th. and there would be a concert l>y the school .choir at the Parish Hall on December 3rd. Members of the Board expressed their gratification at the excellent work done by Mr A. L. Lockhart, Alan Gainsford, and other boys in preparing the model of the farm for the Exhibition, and a vote of thanks was passed to them. An invitation to attend a dance given hy the JEx-Pupils' Association was accepted. A sum of £JO was voted towards the purchase of school priies. It was resolved to invite the Hon. Sir James Parr t» visit the " school on prizegiving day (December 17th), and give an address.
