| RANGIORA. | A meeting of the Rangier a Brass "Band was held on Tuesday evening, Mr AY. A. P.owse being in the chair. The resignation or the bandmaster (Mr Llewellyn Owen) was received,, and accepted with regret. Mr AV. Harman was appointed conductor in the meantime. Mr ('•. Harlow, who has been connected with the band for al>out 30 vears. tendered his resignation. He «;us elected a life member. Kaiapoi. in honour of Mr fi.d Mrs Hawken. The party took the form of a kiuhen evening. The presents were numerous and usetul, the i>l>eiiing of V hie it created much merriment. Mr Miller proposed the 'health ol the bride and bridegroom, at the same time extending to Mr Hawken a welcome to New Zealand. Mr Hawken suitably responded. Mr F. Richards. on behalf of his mother, also returned thanks. The evening was spent in progressive euchre and names, the winners being Mrs 8. Richards and Mr A. Pearce. Musical items were contributed by Mrs A. Pearce, Misses Murphy and Young, Messrs Baker, Miller," and Pearce. The accompaniments were played by Mrs S. Richards and Miss X. Stark. A dainty supper was served. AMBERLEY. 'Hie annual school picnic will ibe held on Dee-ember ]-th at the Chrintdittrch Botanic Gardens. A meeting of the committee of the Amherley Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club was held on Tuesday evening. Mr J. Hendivni presiding. Before commencing the business of the evening the chairman referred to the doatit of Mr I). McPhee, who was a very keen club member and competitor, and who gave promise of developing into a champion rider. A motion of sympathy with-ilr and Mrs J). MoPhee was carried. The secretary reported that in regard to the 30-mile road amateur championship of Canterbury, the Canterbury Centre would issue the customary certificates to the first and second riders, and that trophies had been given by Hope, Gibbons, Ltd., Bennetts, Ltd., Jk>ll and Co., Adams, Ltd., Ganiage's, Suckling Bros., Dunlop Pub her Co. : Frew Bros., au»l Amherley iStores. It was decided to hire the hall on the afternoon of the race to servo as a refreshment bureau , for the competitors, and afterwards to present the prizes. Owing to the usual •train leaving at 4.30 p.m., it was decided to enquire from the Railway Department if a special carriage could he supplied for the Christchurch competitors on an excursion"train leaving Amherley at 6 p.m. The entries received lor the forthcoming race number 80.

Malvern County is one of. the homes of sheep-breeding in the Dominion, and stock front within its bounds rarely fail to take a prominent place in the iaward lists when sent afieM. A number of the sheep shown, "lest wgek at Kinveo had been-exhibited successfully at the Royal, Dunedin, and other ■ shows.
