November Mr Allrcd Hill, the well-known New Zealand musician and composer, bas got nine months' leave of absence from the New South Wales Consenatorium and the IJoyal Sydney Apollo Ciuh to enable him to accept a special musical engagement in the United States M. Henri Verbnißgben. formerly conductor of tbe New South Wales State Orchestra, and now m charge of the Minneapolis Orchestra, has arranged for Mr Hill to conduct some of hi.s Maori compositions with the Minneapolis Orchestra, and theChicago choir. A 1 none the works to ho performed are the "Ra-Ha ' chorus from Mr Hill'.-. "Hinemoa."' ''T a,in going to do my best to boost New Zealand and its music, ' writes Mr Hill to a friend in Wellington, '"because, although by chance I was horn in Australia, all my early training and ideals originated in New Zealand. The Maori idiom entered into my soul and blood, and nothing can eradicate it. I have lately collected some new Maori songs (words and music) and when I come over in December I shoujd like to get somo more. I'll make Anicrirn »um times as well as jazz, before I'm through."
