LIFE-SAVING.

CANTERBURY HEAD CENTRE. A meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Head Centre of the Royal LifeSaving Society was held last night. Present —Messrs S. K. Bassett (chairman), W. Sarelius (secretary), W. Rowntroo, F. J. Glackin, J. G. Parry, Edgar A. Chivcrs, C. W. Smith, 11. A. Wilkinson, P. G. Bamford, Spiller (assistant secretary), and Misses H. M. Cowley and D. Brown, and Mrs L. M. Daviea. Mr Eric S. Evans, Carlton. Victoria, was appointed tJie Canterbury lie ad Centre's delegate to the conference of Australian and 1 Xetv Zealand Royal Life-Saving Societies, to open in Melbourne on December flth. It was dscided to hand over the conduct of the Wigram Shield competition ihis year to tlie Hawke's Bay Hfcad Centre to < onduct during tl-o swimming championship meeting at Xapier. Tho Otago Head Centro is to be iniormcd that tho date proposed fcy it for this competition is unsuitable. A letter wa3 received from the secretary (Mr Bamford) of the Council of the now lion-existent Dominion Head Centre, enclosing tho minutes of the last meeting of that body. The Canterbury Heud Centro was asked to appoint delegates to attend a conference, to be held at the time of the Xew Zealand swimming championship meeting. It was decided that the Head Centro should be represented at the conference, and the chairman and the secretary were appointed a. sub-committee to draw up remits and submit tie samu to the next meeting. It was decided to hold the competition for the Wigram Cup on the samo date as tlie Canterbury swimming triads, the chairman and secretary to arrange date and place. Reference was made to the recent screening or a motion picture showing American methods of life-saving, and the opinion was expressed that those, methods, not -being as perfeot 89 those id uss in New Zealand, an explanation ought to accompany the picture, making it plain that the methods depicted were not those in use in the Dominion. It. w&s decided to try and arrange for such an explanation to be screened when, the picture is shown other parts of the iiominion.
