BOROUGH COUNCILS.
+ KAIAPOI. Tho Kaiapoi Borough Council met on Tuesday. Present—The Mayor (Mi- H. Mcintosh), and Crs. W. G. Winter, A. Moore., F. Thome, B. J. Dunn, W. 11. Stark, J. W. Barnard, G. E. Gillctt, J. Hirst, and A. Johnson, A letter was -.cccived from the Kaiapoi Eire Board asking that, strainers be. installed on the river sumps with the least possible delay, and also that the 1* tiller street sump bo deepened. It was decided to procure two strainers for trial in accordance with the Eire Board's plan, and to build a fire sump in the Fuller street, drain, •30t't long by 4ft wide. . Mr J. Craig's plans and specifications for a. dwelling to be erected at "The Pines were approved. It. was decided to erect danger notices warning bathers at Kairaki, and a! so to ascertain tho c.c«t. of a life-saving reel and appliances f;t- "The Pines" be3ch. Mr N. Stow waited on tho Council with reference to damage done to his crops by flooding through the Council's contractors, leaving a. (loodgi.e off the outer end of Feldwick's drain. He estimated the damage i=l £lO. .After discussion it was decided to grant Mr Stow £1 10s compensation. Tho Lighting Committee, reported that. Mr J. S. Guthrie had been requested to furnish «. sketch plan of the propose*] newtransformer house and showroom with the apnroximat.ee cost. The committee also recommended that for the future all work done bv tho electrical engineer outside the, borough be charged for at the rate of 6s per hour, plus travelling expenses, between 5 p.m. and S a.ru. time and a half, and double time on Sundays, all used to bo charged at cost price, plus 15 pel cent. The report was received ana adopted. With reference to tho letter received from the Eyre Countv Council regarding the proposed deviation 'of the Main road to Rangiora from the Girder Bridge to the junction of Cemetery road and Middle IsUnd road, the Works Committee recommended that tne 2 roods M perches to be taken for f road mirposes be surrendered on payment of the "cum of £SO; also that the severed portion containing 2 rocds 20 perches be given in exchange for a piece adjoining the cemetery containing 3 roods 28 perches, now included in Mr John Bead s title, such exchange to bo on level terms. Tho recommendations were ad or ted.
