RANGIORA. At the meeting of the Bowling, Tennis, and Croquet Club Committee of Management. Mr W. A. Banks occupied tho chair. The chairman referred to the death of Queen Alexandra, and moved that svmpathv with the Royal Faniilv be recorded. The motion was carried. Three resignations were zoreptcd and or.© new member was elected. Requirements of the croquet section were left to the Ground Committee to attend to. The treasurer's statement pave the receipts for the month as £66 lis and expenditure £lO 7s 9d. Mr C. Hat-greaves, for the bowline section, mentioned that Mr T. 'W . Ambrose had been selected to represent the club in the iinnual match to be played at Timaru between the Christrhurrh Centre and Sooth Canterbury C'entre on December sth. HANMER SPRINGS. On Sunday night. owing to a temporary stoppage in the high pressure water supply, which in turn provides the power lor lighting, the Queen Mary Hospital authorities were threatened with darkness.- The difficulty, however, was overcome by utilising "the Fordson tractor from the Health Department's Farm, which ran continuously for 10 hours, carrying a load of 95 amps. Mr J. Bedelph. the electrician, suggested tho use of the tractor. WAIPARA. During tho past week nor'-westers havo prevailed. The grass and green root crops are in need of rain. Shearing is in full swing, and many flno clips of wool are being sent away. This season's lambs are doing well and some good percentages have been recorded. A very successful garden party was held at" "Ulendalough," the residence of Mrs R. King, when a "gift day" was held in aid of St. Saviour's Orphanage and St.. Anne's Home. Tie beautiful grounds were .looking their best. During the afternoon recitations, songs, and musical items were given by Mesdames L. King, and Shadbolt, Misses J. McKenzie (Rangiora), H. Fendall, and J. Baird (Sefton). Gramophone selections were also given. A ' guessing competition was won by Mrs J. Tomlinson. Much credit is duo to Mrs R. King, who organised the garden party, and entertained the visitors at afternoon tea. Three cases of produce were sent to St. Saviour's Orphanage and one case to St. Anne's Home. The local school was inspected on Friday by Mr Graham, Inspector of Schools. OXFORD. Rain is very much needed throughout the district. TEe soil has become hard and dry, and cultivation, has been made difficult and laborious. Grass is getting short and the.crops arc failing to stooL In many cases they are running to ear, and the harvest prospects are not bright. On three occasions during tho month there has been a light rain, which, tßough welcome and stimulating, is much less than enough.

SEFTON. The School Committee arranged a euchre party last Saturday evening to provide funds for tho children's prizes. There was a fair attendance. The prizes were given by tho chairr niau of the committee and Mr Geo. Clarke. Mr Georce James won the men's prize, and Misses D. Hales and K. Quick tied for the ladies'. In the play-off Miss E. Quick won. OKAIN'S BAY. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Hand of Friendship Lodge, 1.0.0. F., M.V., Okain's Bay, was held on Saturday. In the absence of the N.G. and his supporters, the meeting was conducted by 1.P.N.G., Bro. J. Harris, supported by P. 0., Eric Moore. Sick payment was voted to several members. Several questions arising from the recent district officers' meeting were discussed, and referred "to a later meeting. Moore 2, marmalade; v.h.c, pickles; Miss L. Moore, 2nd, tomato sauce; Miss V". Mould, Ist, chutney. Mrs J. C. Hartley and family, of St. Albans, spent the week-end Avith Mr and Mrs W. Pidgeon. Mr J. TAI TAPU. A meeting convened by • the Tai Tapu. School Committee was held in tho public school on Monday evening. There, was a large attendance of. parents. It was decided to hold tho annual school picnic at Sumner on December 3rd. The meeting then resolved itself into a committee to arrange about tho annual flower show, which is a means of raising money to augment tho school funds It was decided that the show be held on January Bth, and that the Hon. Sir R. Heaton Rhodes, AI.L.C, be asked to open it. The chairman (Mr T. 0. Morgan) said that during the year tho Flower Show Committee and district mourned tho loss of one of its resident* — the late Mr Robert Macartney. Ho asked all present to stand in silence as a mark of respect to tho late gentleman's memory and as an expression of sympathy with the late Mr Macartney's ■widow and family. Mr Macartney always gave a silver cup for competition in tho cookery classes at the annual flower show. The committee will wait upon the residents of the district shortly for contributions to the various stalls. A different system is being adopted t'nis year of residents being asked to give to only on© list. The various stall-holders were appointed. KILLLNCHY. The final social of a series held in the Kiliicchy Hall during the winter was well attended. Prizes in a progressive euchre tournament were won by Miss M. Lemon and Mr H. Char>pell, and consolation prizes by Mj£s K. Cameron and Mr L. Lemon. The aggregate prizes for most games lor the season were awarded to Miss M. and Mr J. ChappeU. A dance followed. In presenting the prizes, Mr W. Chappell expressed the committee's thanks to all who had contributed to the success of the socials, and said that the committee hoped to hold a concert in the near future.
