In connexion with the South Canterbury Jockey Club's Spring Meeting to-morrow and on Saturday, a special train'will leave Christchurch each dayat 7.55 a.m. arriving at tho.course at 11.19 a.irf. On tho return journey, specials will leave Timaru at 6.36 p.m. and arc due back in Christchurch at 10.13 p.m. Rivalry and Conntermore are tq forfeit their engagements at the South Canterbury Meeting.. The former has been eased in her work owing to trouble with one of her joints. F. D. Jones has not decided' where he will send his team during the holiday period, but ho may patronise the Manawatu and Marton Meetings. Martis has been resold at a fair figure and ho goes south from J. B. PearBon's establishment to-day. C. Emerson will hare a full book for the opening day at Timaru, his engagements including tho mounts on Winkie's Best,. Miss Minerva, Celerity, 11., Waikaia, His Majesty, Gay Queen, and Windshield. J. Bealo will ride Orchid, Itonaki, Cornstalk, and Sartist to-morrow at the South Canterbury J.C. Meeting. Economist is apparently sound again. The Absurd gelding worked steadily yesterday morning and may ho taken south for the second day at Timaru. The Paper Money; colts from Fulica and Fair Fight, and tho colt by Archery from Michaela; were gelded on Monday and will shortly be handled by G. J. Pine for their owner, Mr G. Gerard. .-,.•'• Scotch .Mixture has arrived a.s Feilding from Gisborne. This horse, now he is aged, is racing better, and he Is expected to do well, but the com. pany is much superior to that ho raced against in Gisborno. Since Roseday has been in work, he haß displayed signs of lameness, but it'was apparently only a passing ail» ment, and he now seems" sound again. Roneday has been striding along nicely in Ms work, and seems likely to come back to form, Muraahi is being mentioned again ,in connexion with the Auckland Cup in which he dead-heated with To Kara two years ago! His form at the ■recent meeting of .the Waikato Racing Club was goodj-and: he is still susceptible of improvement in condition.

" The brilliant Absurd gelding has had a good spell, and he should be at liis best again when the Autumn Meeting* como up for decision. Nominations for the "West-port T.C.'s Midsummer Meeting close to-morrow at S p.m. Nominations for the Auckland T.C.'s Summer Meeting close on Friday at 5 p.m. Final payments for the " Auckland T.C.'s 1925 and first forfeits for the 1926 Great Northern Derby are due on Friday at u p.m. Acceptances for the Forbury Park T.C.'s Spring Meeting olose on Friday at 5 p.m. The speedy pacing mare Irish "Whispers is on a visit to tho Oamaruowued stallion Nelson Bingcn. 'Mr F. C. Hogarth's pair, Harold Burwood and Bright Bell, are on tho easy list. Hackthorne and Copra, have been turned out for a good spell. Molly Pointer has left D. Greenhorn's stable, and is now in work at New Brighton under 0. F. Robinson's caro. The ex-Cantorhury-trained pacer Percy Dillon, who is now owned at Auckland, recently dislocated a hip and has been thrown out of commission. Mr H. Gothoy'6 "brood mare Logan Guy has foaled a fine colt foal to tho American sir© Worthy Bond. Don AVild is doing steady exercise at headquarters, and will probably race i at Auckland or Canterbury Park. The Nelson sportsman. Mr T. B. Louisson, is negotiating for the purchase oi a well-bred American.colt, and expects to complete the sale at an early date. The "Wellington Trotting Club will hold its summer fixture on January 16th, 1926, and will distribute sovs in stakes. The principal race' the New Zealand Trotting Gold Cup," is endowed with. 550 sovs and a gold cup valued at 100 sovs, and is for horses that can do 4.35 or better for two miles. ' P. Itiddle has decided to retire from the light-harness sport, and it is his intention to return to Sydney early in the New Year and devote his time to training gallopers. Tho Great Audubon gelding Golden Devon is training on tho right way, and will assist at Aucklaaid next month. Mr G. Rutherford has decided to allow his Australian-bred three-year-old Non-mi to. forfeit his engagement in the Great Northern Derby, as he is not forward enough. ,Mr H. F, Nicoll's pair, Nantwieh and Ayr,, are training on tho right way, and will • carry tho Ashburton sportsman ? s colours in the Groat Northern Derby at tho Auckland T.C.'s Summer Meeting. BLOOD STOCK. MR J. B. REID'S PURCHASES. ARAUSIO AND WEATHERVANE. / (raoM oce owif cobkespoxdent.) LONDON, October 23. The two racehorses which were purchased by Mr J. B. Reid at Newmarket last week have been shipped to New Zealand by the Pemuera, which saiied today from .Southampton. Arausio, for which Mr Reid paid 1100 guineas, was previously owned by Mrs Sol'er Whitburn. He is a four-year-old brown colt by Sunstar out of Maid of Orange. As a three-year-old Ik- won the July Handicap (six furlongs) at Newmarket, beating Black Gown anu Precious. Earlier"in the year he '.von the Granville Stakes (five furlong*'), beating Perhaps So, St. Napolean, and Diameter. This year Arausio' (carrying-9 12) was unplaced in the Bretby Welter at Newmarket, the- winner being Brixton (carrying 8 2). He was first, however, in the iSalford Borough Handicap at Manchester in June. He carried S 7, and Lea: such horses as Wvkehani and Suunv Pose. Mr Rcid's other purchase. Weathervane, is from the King's stables, aud for this he >:aid 620 guineas. Weathervane is a six-year-old bay horse by Lembeitr out of Vain Air. ' As a four-year-old he won the Royal Hunt Cup (seven furlongs 1(56 yards) at Ascot. He was ridden by Ingham, Wootton's apprentice, and beat Rock Fire. The next year, 1924, he again ran in the Royal Hunt Cup and was -second to Dinkie. As a six-year-old he has been unplaced in the Drayton Handicap at Goodwood, won by Black Sheep; in the Beaufort Stakes at Newmarket, won ly Valdore; and in the Royal Hunt Cup, this time won by Cockpit. It will be recognised that both horses are beautifully bred, though the prices given were very moderate. The purchases could easily have been resold at much higher prices than those paid hy Mr Reid at the Newmarket sales. RICCARTON. TRAINING NOTES. A heavy leg enveloped tho course in the. early hours of yesterday morning "but it lifted with the sun, and some interesting work was done; most of it on the plough. The plough, improved as the morning wore on. His Majesty and Equerry were the first out, and the former was doing bis work the better at the end ot six furlongs in 1.10 1-5. Centrepiece had an advantage over Serotina throughout a run over half a mile taking 50 2-ss. Frisco Mail alone ran a comfortable 6evcn furlongs, taking 1.35. Bonmark galloped about sir furlongs and a half, the last six being done in 1.20 2-5. Frisco and Limerick were together throughout a half mile spin, taking Si. Royal Head heat Counfermove over six furlongs in 1.19. Clarcina alone reeled off five furlongs nicely in 1 3 2-5, andi Waikaia sprinted homo down the straight smartly at the end of a steady round. Calcite and Grey I/ass were always a few lengths ahead of Kilbirnie when running six furlongs in 1.18. Sp&rklight covered the same ground alone in 1.17 2-o, and The Polymnian took 1.1!) 2-5. Orchid ran half a. mile well in 49. Cultivation was going better than Masterhand at the end of five furlongs on the No. 7 grass. This track is short of the actual distances marked. Ayrburn ran six furlongs in 1.19 3-5, and ■was picked up by Some Fox over the last three. Ferino did six furlongs nicely in 1.17 4-5. Celerity was doing her work better than Kuia at the end of half a mile in 51 3-5, and Zarogoza had an advantage over Windshield at the end of six furlongs in 1.19 2-5. Chickwheat appeared to be going more freely'than Carpentiei* in a run over seven furlongs done well in 1.32. Jubilant sprinted six furlongs brilliantly in 1.16. Footfall • was not hurried when working over, about a mile, the last six furlongs taking 1-21. Starmist was going better than Goldstap when finishing up seven furlongs pleasingly in 1.31 2-5. Gay Lifo pleased mbre than Ophir when running six furlongs in J.lb. Sartist beat •Giantkiller over seven furlongs in 1.29 4-5. Giantkiller was sore in front on pulling up. Cornstalk and Young Lochinvar Tan half a mile together in 50 1-5. Goldspinner beat Flaming Ray over five furlongs on the No. 7 grass in 1.4 2-5. Winkie's Best, with the assistance of Prosperity over the last six furlongs, ran a mile very well in 1.43 > 3-5. Prosperity covered his journey in 1,18 4-5. Miss Minerva ran five furlongs in 1.3, and had the two-year-old Lady Swinton as a mate over the last half mile. Kilbox and Assurance sprinted' three furlongs in 39. , After the breakfast interval Gay Queen sprinted half a mile along the back, and Royal Despatch did tho same with Rag Fair as a mate for about three furlongs. ' Glenalmond ran a nice six furlongs in 1.16 4-5, and Sunny Loch without being hurried covered the same ground in 1.18. Silver Cord ran five furlongs on the Iso. 7 grass in 1.3 1-5. . Rebuke alone covered six furlongs in 1.19. Coupon took 50 4-5 to get to the end of half a mile, and Rigel beat Horatius over eeven furlongs on the No. 7 grass m 1.32.
