DISTINGUISHED VISITOR.
SIR ERNEST RUTHERFORD DUE ' , NEXT WEEK. Sir Ernest Rutherford is expected in Cliristchurch, fi'om Nelson, either on Sunday or Monday. If ho tomes via the East Coast, he will arrive ou Sunday, but should ho decide to motor through the Bullcr Gorge it will ])o Monday before ho i rrives. Lady Rutherford arrived from Wellington yesterday morning, and is staying with her brother, I)r. C. T. Hand-Newton, Bealey avenue. AMID BOYHOOD SCENES. (PIt£SS ASSOCIATION TELEGBAU.) NELSON, October 29. Sir Ernest Rutherford was accorded a civic welcome at a great gathering of citizens. In replying, ho said ho could say in a sens® ho was in his home town. He was .born at Spring Grove (near No'son) and attended tho Foxhill school when five years of age. Then ho went to Havclock school, and from then' won a scholarship taking him to Nelson College. Sir Ernest Rutherford said he owed a very great deal to Nelson College. It was a very great pleasure to be hack among the .scenes of his boyhood. ''l feel the fact that so many have assembled is not so much a. welcome to me individually, but a welcome to nm from the iact that I wa,s born in the Nelson district, and in recognition of the fact that a Nolsonian has been able to achieve some distinc* tion and hold up the end of New Zealand in the world." Sir Ernest Rutherford arrived in Blenheim on Wednesday, and was unofficially welcomed bv a large number of friends and admirers. Ho proceeded tc Havclock. where practically tho whole town turned out to a. reception ■liven to the distinguished scientist. Vic received a warm welcome back to liis otfn home town.
