e HALF-YEARLY RETURNS EXPENDITURE EXCEEDS INCOME (FEESS ASSOCIATION" TELEGEAJI.) WELLINGTON, October 29. The public accounts for the quarter ended September 30th arc gazetted. The revenue and expenditure of the Consolidated Fund and the ordiuary revenue account for the six months from April Ist to September 30th, 1925, arc as follows: — Revenue. The revenue received amounted to £12,034,840. For the same period last year the amount received was £10,923,920, there being thus an increase in revenue of £1.110.920, as compare! with the first six months of last year. The principal increases arc: — Customs .. •• 291, 553 ]?ailways ■ • • • 238,205 (Stamps • ■ • • 202,408 Post and Telegraph .. 188.080 The principal decreases are: — Miscellaneous .. .. 75,179 Income-tax .. .. 22,377 Land-tax .. .. 17.746 Expenditure. The total net expenditure for the six months was £ 12.989,1 (51, us compared with £12,547,337 for the same period last year, there' being thus an increase of £441,824. The principal increases arc as under:— £ Special Acts .. .. 4(5,603 Working railways .. 317,996 Pensions Department. .. Naval defence .. .. 26,872 Education Department .. 15,5.?2 Lands and .Survey .. 17.441 Electoral Department .. 17,546 Agriculture Department .. 20,442 The increase in the railway figures is mostly due to increased wages-and purchases of stores and material. The principal decreases arc;— £ Pest and Telegraph .. Sii.&'Hi Industries and Commerce 69-,771 The excess of expenditure over income for the six months was £954.32.1, as compared with £1,623,417 for the same period last year.
