AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

MEETING OF CANTERBURY CENTRE. A meeting of the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic. Association was held last evening, Mr-C. S. McCully presiding over a good attendance. A letter was received' from the GUI Collegians" .Sports-Club, stating that it had been decided to form an athletic section of the Club. They applied for affiliation to the Association. The secretary .stated that 2.> nan.es of Old Collegians prepared to 1.-.icome members if affiliated had been forwarded. The application was granted. - The 'Technical College Oid Boys' Amateur Athletic Club also wrote..applying for' afiiliation, which was granted. Three applications for reinstatement as amateurs were received, and it was decided to refer them to the Council. The secretary of the parent body in. Wellington wrote that the Council had assumed control of the American tour. The American representative of the Association,. C. Gv Krogness, jun., had been cabled, requesting [hat he endeavour to secure Messrs J. Scholz and IS. Buker as the team to visit New Zealand. The Christchurch -Sports Club wrote that it had been reported to the committee that certain members of the executive of the Christchurch Council of the New Zealand .A.A.A. were actively associated with a movement the purpose of which w'as to cause a breach in the control of boxing in New Zealand, and more especially in Christci.urch. The committee wished to know if there were any truth in the report. It was decided to reply that the Question was not within the province of the Centre, and that any action taken by Centre officials was in a purely private capacity. The following Canterbury championships were allocated to the Halswell Amateur Sports Club for its meeting during the Christmas holidays:—Two miles cycling, 300 vards, and two miles runnnig. Amberley was granted the following:—■ 1320 yards and 75 yards running, and 13 miles "cycling championship events.
