MOTOR LORRIES.

AMENDMENT TO REGULATIONS. An important amendment has been made to the Motor Lorries Regulations defining motor lorries, traction engines, and. trailers. 'Hie amendment states that tho previous definitions are revoked, the. new definitions being as follows: Motor-lorry means any motor vehicle na defined by the Motor Vehicles Act, 1924, used for hire for.any commercial purposes in the carriage of passengers or goods "which, with its maximum load, exceeds two tons in weight but does not include traction engines. Steam waggon means any motorlorry propelled by steam power which is primarily designed to carry a load of passengers exclusive of fuel or water for use of the vehicle.

Traction engine means any loco, engine propelled by steam power and designed for use on ordinary roads, but does not include steam waggons whether or not used for the purpose of traction.

Trailer means a vehicle without motive power designed solely or principally for the carriage of persons or goods and drawn by a motor-vehicle other than a traction engine. Clause 1 of the Regulations, No. 7, is amended by substituting:—Firstclass, available for use on any motorlorry; second-class, which, with load, does not exceed a maximum weight of eight tons; th.ird-class, -which, with, load, does not exceed six tons; fourth class, which, with load, does not exceed four tons; fifth-class, which, with load, does not exceed two and a half tons. Regulation 11 is amended by adding the following clause:— For purposes of registration the conveyance of school children shall not be deemed to be carriage of passengers, but a motor-lorry engaged only in the carriage of school children shall L>e deemed to be a motor-lorry engaged in carriage of goojis.
