HEALTH WEEK.
to ths editor or "rras rsrss " iSir, —My committee has authorised me to appeal, through your columns, to all business people and the citizens generally to do their utmost to ensure ' the success of Health Week in Christ- | church, to bo held from the :20th. to the ' 26th inclusive of this mouth. You have already been pood enough to re- | port the decisions of the committee- as •' to many of tho varied activities afoot; these will be largely advertised' in your columns in a few davs. - You have also graciously consented to publish special articles written by experts and supplied by the committee. Your regular advertisers are requested to include as far as possible, references to Health Week in their '"copy." The effort this year is to be real and worthy. All can help. There is much enthusiasm in evidence' already. It is to be hoped that it will grow and spread, j A feature of the campaign is tho very j practical co-operation of our local i medical men; this, in spite of the fact that rna.ny such efforts as the present should servo almost to put them out of business! But we know that they are seeking only to give a lead to tho general community along the lines of modern medical science, which is all for prevention rather than cure. Indeed, wo havo behind us this year practically tho whole of our organised community activities, professional, commercial, industrial, philanthropic, and religious. What is now required i is tho active interest of all as iudivid- j ualc, whether organised or not. In a : true analysis, a community consists of ; individuals rather than of orgauisa- i tions, however strong or worthy. And this matter of health is surely an individual and a community one: wo are all so closely related in this respect. ! Somo are handicapped by physical and j other disabilities. What is life without health? Good health is almost as contagious as disease. It is, moreover, easier to maintain than to restore. The committee set up is very widely representative. It has endeavoured to deal with every possible aspect of the question, and to utilise all available avenues of influence Even j the much criticised hoarding will prove a medium of publicity and edu- | cation, a certain firm having generously granted the free use of three or i tour panels. By all and every means let us. man, woman, and child, be- I come for a week at least, the exponents of health/and abundant life. It . will be a. great thing if we can all '■ catch the spirit of this jolly week, j Our wish for all Christchurch folk is: : A long life and a merry one! —Yours, etc.,
CLYDE CARE. j Chairman, Propaganda Committee. L
